(So, you could order a purple Targa, though we highly recommend against it.) Just don't try to push Porsche too far-it's willing to stomach only so much of your bad taste. Throw in some more cash and it'll match the leather, stitching, and even the floor-mat piping. But if you're really looking to stand out, pay the automaker a few grand more and it will let you go your own way.įor $5500, Porsche will paint any of its cars, excluding the Cayenne SUV, in any color you desire. This gives a deep candy color with little sparkles here and there.Īll the above is my experiences only, others may have completely different techniques that work as well or better.Porsche already has special color combinations for select editions such as the Boxster and 911 Black Editions. This will give a finish that looks like some of the Gretsch sparkle finishes.Ī really neat finish can be gotten by shooting a metallic, say silver, then several coats of tinted clear, to yield a medium deep candy color, then shoot a layer of clear with the tiniest "metalflakes" very sparsely mixed, then a couple of more color/clear layers. You can tint the clear overcoats, that's how you get a candy color. Now all you've got to do is layer on the high-solids clear and sand down (without cutting through the flakes, or its start all over again) until the surface is smooth. THen using the lowest pressure you can get away with and a thin mix, shoot another couple of layers of clear to lock the flakes down. THe easy way is to shoot a layer of clear with an additive that retards drying, then quickly take a pepper shaker (that you have cleverly filled with the flakes beforehand) and shake a nice layer of flakes on. Kind of a mother dog with a gun too, unless you've got a special rig.

No spray cans here, they just don't cut it at all. THat's tiny fine chips of mylar floating in a colored clear that give the sparkle.

House of Kolor, Ditzler, and DuPont make quality finishes Use the same manufacturer for all the components of the job, if you can, primer, thinner, base coat, color coat and clear, if you're doing the whole thing that way. There's lots of colors available in automotive acrylic lacquer, check out especially GM Firemist Iridescent colors. I've had a bit of trouble shooting metallic with an airbrush. You can shoot metallic with any good lacquer gun, it helps if you have an agitator cup to keep the metal powder stirred up, although you can swirl it by hand. You can spray this with a can, but its REALLY hard to get good results, its difficult to lay it on evenly enough, and the edges of each spray pass seem to show. The occasional guitar, if the guy wanted something like candy flames.Ī metallic gold, like you see on a Les Paul, is metal dust suspended in clear, maybe a tinted, clear. Qualifier: I used to paint custom motorcycles, so I did a lot of this kind of thing.

We have opened a discussion thread in the Pub section discussing this. We will include a very detailed password checklist. We want to highly recommend that members turn on and use TGP's two-factor authentication option. We highly recommend every member reading this change their passwords as a precaution. We have forced email revalidation for all members that have not signed on for a while.

None of the accounts compromised were using two-factor authentication. Talking to one member as I am working through getting his account back in order, he informed me that his Apple password manager had been compromised and made available on the dark web. In today's world, that is false confidence you can no longer afford.Įvery account that I've restored so far to the original owner was using compromised passwords. It is heartbreaking to see that the lure of saving some money will still fool people into using those methods to save a few dollars. Unfortunately, we cannot control how members do deals. However, the best way to prevent this is for members to exercise proper password hygiene (which I'll detail below), turn on two-factor authentication, and - I implore every single person here - only use payment methods that have buyer protection.

We've made security changes that I don't want to detail here to stop them. They have scammed members in the Emporiums by creating ads with stolen photos and requesting Paypal F&F or Venmo exclusively for payment. Some fraudsters have compromised TGP accounts have in the past few days.
